Spring Time Hobbies

For many, spring represents the best time of the year as the grip of winter cold leaves and is replaced by the returning warmth and life of nature. Spring also represents a great excuse to get out the house and explore new areas of your life.

One way that you can expand your own frontiers as the warmer breezes arise is taking up spring time hobbies. Spring is the perfect time to try new things both in and out of the house, so finding a new hobby for this time of the year can benefit both the body, mind and soul.

There are a number of spring time hobbies you can choose from, many of which take place outdoors but there are some indoor hobbies you can consider as well.

Gardening

Spring is a time for renewal and starting a garden during this time of year is a perfect way to get out in the fresh air and get in some much needed exercise. You can plant new flowers or grow your own food for the table. All gardening requires is a few tools, some seeds, an area of land and some hard work to make sure what you plant will grow. Set a goal for yourself with this hobby in the spring and watch it come to fruition over time.

Running

Perhaps the most obvious hobby to take up in the spring is also the most beneficial to your health. Walking, jogging and running are much more enjoyable outside where you can go to new places and see new things as you get into better shape. Go to the park or walk around the block, this is the perfect hobby to enjoy in the spring.

Running will allow you to take in all the beauty of the season!  Spring is such a beautiful time of year and you will enjoy the fresh aroma and beauty that will be budding all over town.  This season also is one of the best for great running temperatures.  It is not too hot, nor too cold!

Photography

Spring is the perfect time of year for this hobby, especially if you venture into the great outdoors. There is nothing like taking photographs of the fields, hills, forests, mountains and ocean in the spring. The very nature of this season begs people to be outdoors and explore, so why not take pictures so you have something to share with everyone? Other than the cost of a good camera, it costs very little to pursue this hobby as you go to new places and improve your skills.

Travelling

Being cooped up in the house all winter naturally leads to wanting to get out and explore once the snows melt. There are plenty of places to go and interesting things to see during the spring. Take a short trip once every week or two to see a new park, museum or area of interest in your community. This is especially perfect for weekends where you can look forward to exploring new places all week.

Spring time hobbies can improve the mind, body and soul when they touch a genuine interest inside you. Be sure to choose a hobby that peaks your interest and plan appropriately so that you get the most out of it. Spring is a time of renewal and adventure, so be adventurous by choosing a new hobby for this wonderful time of year.

Exercise as a Hobby

Your Hobby and Stress

The effects of stress can be devastating for the health. From accelerating heart disease to making a person more vulnerable to illness, stress can have a powerfully negative effect on a person’s health.

There are many different ways to relieve the tension of stress, one of the best is having a hobby that you find interesting and takes the mind off the troubles. For many people, finding the right hobby to help relieve the stress from work and daily life can be a real life saver. The trick is finding the right hobby that gets your interests and helps pull your mind away from the troubles that life brings.

Here are a few hobbies that can greatly help relieve the stress while costing very little money to do. A hobby does not have to be one that robs your pocketbook to provide stress relief.

Cooking

The art of cooking is one that millions of Americans enjoy as it brings a focus on the food that is being prepared for meals. In today’s microwave world, it may seem like a jarring switch to go back to old fashion cooking. However, the benefits are many as you will consume the food you prepare and you can actually save money as well.

For the purposes of a hobby, having a single night of the week where you cook an extra special meal can bring about a great reduction of stress as the focus shifts to preparing your food.

Games

Millions of people play both video and Tabletop games around the world every day. Thanks to new efforts by game designers, there are now plenty of great card and board games that are suitable for the entire family or speak to a specific interest. Playing a game can engage parts of your mind that help move the focus past the stress of the day and challenge you to excel. Plus, you can also play for competition and keep records or just for the enjoyment. Gaming is versatile and fun for everyone.

Swimming

Swimming is certainly one of the safest ways to exercise as it places almost no stress on the joints, plus anyone who knows how to swim can do several laps around the pool with ease. Swimming can also be a great hobby as well. Whether trying out its new swimming strokes, trying to beat your own best time around the pool or just relaxing and enjoying the water, swimming is a great hobby that can be very inexpensive as well when taking advantage of public or local facilities.

Reading

Reading engages the mind in a more powerful way than movies or television because the words written invoke the imagination.  Reading is not only a wonderful way to relax, it can also be a great way to learn about anything that sparks your interest. From travelling around the world to visiting ancient times to taking trips to the edge of the universe and beyond, reading is fun for everyone. Plus, you can use your own local library to check out materials all for free.

These are just a few hobbies that can help you overcome stress and feel better about yourself. What is important is that you find a hobby that can take your mind off the stress of the day and engage your brain in ways that can actually improve your overall health and feeling of well being.

Your Hobby and Valentine

As we approach Valentine’s Day, we are reminded not only of our feelings towards the ones we love, but in how we celebrate this time of joy and love around the world. Valentine’s Day is a special day set aside for all couples who feel the love and passion that first kindled their romance.
It may seem odd that the world of hobbies fits into Valentine’s Day as most people regard it as more of a personal interest rather than a celebration of love between two people. However, while having your own hobby is important for relieving stress and exploring more personal interests, there is something to be said about how hobbies can be incorporated into your relationship.
For couples, it is probably best to find a new hobby that both can share on an equal basis. Getting involved in a hobby of one person may have its benefits, but there are also disadvantages as well. Hobbies that are the primary interest of one person may feel like an intrusion even with the best of intentions. If the other person shares that genuine interest, that can be wonderful. But in most cases, a hobby that one person engages in, especially if it was well established before the relationship began, probably should be left to that person as long as it does not intrude on the relationship.
Sharing a hobby as a couple means finding a mutual interest that both can share in on a frequent basis. Generally, this will require some research and brainstorming to find something both parties enjoy equally. There probably will be some trial and error. Just remember, what may seem like a great hobby in your viewpoint , may not seem so perfect to another persons view point . So take it easy. If a hobby does not work out well for the both of you, attempt another hobby.
Of the hobbies out there that might work out well, exercise is a very popular one. Taking walks together is a great hobby that can not only improve the health, but build the relationship as well. Walking lets you talk about what happened during the day, share stories or just chat about anything. Walking is an excellent way to relax and actually build upon the relationship.
Playing games, especially with friends or family can be another great hobby as it engages the mind and brings people together. The games can be simple, family games that are perfect for light entertainment. However, many families actually build the games up into friendly contests or even have leagues depending on the game that is chosen. Whatever your pleasure, there are games to suit all tastes.
Cooking can also be a great hobby as well, especially if neither one of you consider yourselves great chefs. Trying out new recipes can be a great way to add spice to the relationship. Plus, you can spend more time together while preparing a meal for just the both of you or the family. Cooking can also save money as well if you mostly have prepared meals or eat out a lot. Choosing a single day each week or perhaps a cookout with friends and family on a weekend is a great hobby that can have you looking forward to that experience.
For those who enjoy the arts, one of the best hobbies is photography. You and your partner can each have cameras and go together on a trip to take photos of places. Photography is a wonderful hobby because it is a personal expression that can be easily learned and improved upon. Plus, it provides instant memories of your trip or excursion.
Collecting is another fascinating hobby that can be shared and enjoyed by couples. Collecting can also fuel a personal interest in a particular subject as well, allowing both people to fully enjoy a subject and learn more about it as well. From stamps to jewelry to antiques and more, collecting is a wonderful hobby that can also be a money maker as well. Many people earn cash on the side by collecting and then selling on the internet. This is the kind of hobby that can be taken as far as you want to go.
Love can be expressed in so many different ways and sharing a hobby with your valentine is a perfect way that both of you enjoy a more loving life style .Just be sure that it is something that both of you can revel in and look forward to with anticipation as that is what hobbies are all about.

Hobby Body Building

It’s practically a tradition that with the coming of the New Year we look in the mirror and see the results of our holiday eating splurge and vow that we will get ourselves into better shape. To get into shape means trying out new exercises and diets that quite often are given up before the snow has melted off the porch.

However, for those interested in body building the winter months provide an excellent opportunity to build more muscles and craft a physique that we have dreamed about. Whether it’s adding new emphasis to the arms, torso or legs, body building certainly seems more of a dedicated craft than just a hobby to many.

However, the “hobby” of bodybuilding goes back for centuries, although it enjoyed a popular upsurge at the beginning of the 20th century. The end of the Victorian era and new emphasis on hitting the beach led to a widespread interest in getting in better shape. Until that time, bodybuilders were considered unique creatures of the stage, sports and circus for their physique.

Today, body building is undergoing another change as people look to lose weight and get into better shape. The understanding that lean muscle tissue actually helps burn away the fat has led to a number of new devices and equipment that promise to increase our muscles, but the truth is that old fashioned free weights are still the best way to sculpt the perfect body.

Kept in the proper perspective, body building has many great advantages as a hobby that people can benefit from for their entire lives. Muscle tissue can still be built up long into our elderly years, which means we can enjoy life far longer by staying in great shape.

If you are considering body building or want to work on different ways to keep building muscle tissue, then here are a few ideas that you might try after the holiday season is over to build muscle and get the physique that you have always wanted.

Set a Routine: Two to three times per week to lift weights as part of your exercise program. You need to have a rest period of at least one day to let the muscles heal and grow which is where the actual building of muscle tissue takes place. Start simple and don’t over-exert yourself and in the summer months you should be looking toned and in great shape.

Kettlebells: This unique form of weights is becoming more popular every day. Kettlebells are weights that look similar to large cannonballs with handles on the top. Kettlebells have a great advantage over ordinary free weights such as dumbbells because you have to use more muscles to keep them steady when working out. This means that you can get into shape faster and build a leaner, more muscular body in a shorter amount of time.

Cardio & Toning Exercises: Don’t forget to combine your bodybuilding efforts with aerobic and resistance exercises that you can do up to five days each week. Even just a brisk 30 minute walk per day combined with sit ups, push ups and squats can help boost your body building efforts and create a sleeker, youthful and healthy figure.

Achieve New Year’s Resolution with Hobbies

We’ve reached that time of year where people tend to make resolutions that they hope to keep, but quite often come up short. While the intention is often noble, we all too often don’t follow through on our resolutions.

There are many reasons why we don’t keep our resolutions, one reason is because we resolve ourselves to do something that isn’t exactly fun. A new diet and exercise routine isn’t something people look forward to with any enthusiasm for example.

However, there is one type of resolution you can make which can benefit both the mind and the body. Resolve to either start or go back to a hobby that you love. Hobbies are more than just diversions. They are food for our mind and bodies to thrive upon when our day to day lives get bogged down.

For the New Year, it would be wise to add a good hobby to the list of resolutions that you are contemplating. Plus, you may find that a good hobby can help you fulfill other promises that you have made for yourself in the coming year. Choosing the right hobby, especially one that involves exercise or a great deal of mental focus can help you get back into shape and freshen up your spirits.

Choosing a Hobby that Improves the Body

There are many hobbies that can help you get into great shape or at least motivate you to improve your physical condition so you can perform your hobby. Take skiing for example. Skiing requires that you be in pretty decent shape in order to hit the slopes, yet it is a fun, relaxing hobby that many people plan their vacations around.

Plus, a hobby like skiing, snowboarding and the like gives you a specific goal to focus your exercise routine so you can then enjoy better results. All too often, our resolutions do not have specific goals in mind. “Looking better in our swimsuits.” Just isn’t good enough when you think about it. Most of us will simply wear a T shirt with shorts and feel more comfortable in our less-than-ideal bodies.

Having a very specific goal, such as planning a skiing vacation for March will give you something closer to focus on so you can get into better physical condition. Furthermore, the skiing itself will assist in your exercise program as well so you can further your efforts at getting into shape.

Here are a few tips to help motivate you to keep your hobbies active and alive throughout the year. These are simple, yet powerful steps you can take in order to keep your resolutions.

Keep Things Simple at First

If you have decided to start a new hobby, remember that you don’t have to dive into it all at once. If you lead a busy life, just start by setting aside a few minutes at a time. All too often when people do not think they can devote “enough” time for something, they stop. Avoid that issue by just setting aside a few minutes at first, then building up from there.

Set Obtainable Short Term Goals

“I want to be in great physical condition.” Well, all of us would like to be in great physical condition as well. If you are planning to be this way around a favorite sport hobby, or other outdoor activities, you need to set some obtainable short term goals at first so you can stay motivated. For example, if you are skiing in the spring and you are overweight, set a modest goal of weight loss for your first month and then maintain it. Pretty soon, you’ll be exceeding your short term goals and reaching your long term ones with more ease.

Surround Yourself with Reminders

If you love a hobby, it pays to have pictures, literature and other items nearby to act as reminders of that hobby. This will help motivate you to keep on track and meet your goals so you can enjoy your activities even more.

By keeping things simple, setting obtainable short term goals and surrounding yourself with reminders of the hobby you wish to start or re-start, you will soon be on your way towards enjoying a fun-filled hobby that can make for a lifetime of memories.

Your hobby finder wishes all  our readers a most happy hobby 2013. :-D
